The Case of Maureen Freeman

Facts in the case:

  • Maureen Freeman found the body in the garage
  • The gun used to kill the victim is registered to Maureen; bought 2 years earlier
  • Her prints are on the gun, a .22 SigSauer Mosquito Winter Digital
  • The bullet that killed Otto came from Maureen’s gun
  • No GSR on her hands (not surprising); test was conducted several days after the murder
  • She and Otto have been fighting in public (the store)
  • The partner is trying to slow down the investigation by not releasing the store’s books
  • There has been unnecessary red tape in getting access to the books
  • She claims not to have heard any gunshots
  • The neighbors do not report hearing any gunshots
  • There are fish scales on Otto’s shoes, and parts of his clothing
  • There are also pine needles (Douglas Fir or pseudotsuga menziesii) on his shoes. This evidence is later removed, said to be sent to the wrong desk.
  • The pine needles have traces of TetraKO on them; there is a list of sites where TetraKO was used; the list later goes missing
  • The pine needles are a species of pine normally found at higher elevations, but which can be found in Denver city limits
  • There is a journal book that shows Freeman up in the mountains with WA on the day he was killed – the police don’t have this
  • The CSI tech (Dec 15) is CAB; she got transferred to Chicago just before Christmas.

Victims:

  • Otto Freeman
